Joan Osborne and the Funk Brothers perform “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted”

I would like to think that Rozanov would have greatly enjoyed this video clip of Joan Osborne singing “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” in the 2002 documentary film, Standing in the Shadows of Motown.  Osborne is here backed (or is she backing them? – of course it’s the former, but does it really matter?) by surviving members of the incomparable Funk Brothers, the unheralded studio musicians who performed on the Motown recordings from 1959 to 1972.  In fact, it was my viewing of this incredibly soulful performance yesterday that stirred me to post some of Rozanov’s aphorisms.
